J.P. Nagar is an established residential area located in Bangalore South and is named after prominent Indian socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan. J. P. Nagar was developed by Bangalore Development Authority as an extension of Jayanagar and Banashankari to accommodate the growing population of Bangalore. It is characterized by independent dwelling units, high rise residential apartments and high street retail developments. J. P. Nagar has emerged as a major residential and commercial micro-market as a result of limited availability of plots and rising land rates in the existing BDA layouts such as Jayanagar and BTM Layout. J. P. Nagar is dominated by affluent local population of Bangalore and today it is regarded as a major residential colony in the south Bangalore.
